The Douro Demarcated Region owes its origins to the Marquess of Pombal, in 1756, and represents the world´s first demarcated and legislated wine region. This region is composed by three sub-regions: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior, where Quinta da Zaralhoa is located.

The Douro Valley Wine Region is one of the most impressive sceneries in the world, classified by UNESCO as World Heritage in 2001.
